オリジナルジャケットでは、黒の背景に赤と緑のラインで描かれた女性の姿が印象的で、その配色はアフリカ系アメリカ人にとって「ソウルカラー」とも称される特別な意味を持っています。本作ではその象徴的なビジュアルを、日本の伝統色である“藍”の濃淡のみで再解釈しました。

私は日本人として、このアルバムから多くの影響を受け、価値観や美意識の一部を形づくられてきました。なかでも、「サンプリング」という音楽的手法——既存の音を解体し、再構築するという概念は、藍染の古布を解き、別のかたちへと再生する私の制作スタイルと深く重なります。

“サンプリング”という創造の哲学。それはただの引用ではなく、過去への敬意と、未来への問いかけです。音楽と布、それぞれ異なる文脈にありながらも、そこには共通する精神が息づいていることを、この作品を通して表現しました。


この作品は、A3サイズのウッドパネル（厚さ2cm）に藍染生地の端切れを貼り合わせて制作されています。

This piece is inspired by the iconic album cover of The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest. The original artwork features a figure outlined in red and green against a black background—colors often referred to as “soul colors” within African-American culture, representing pride, heritage, and identity.

In this work, I reinterpreted that powerful visual language using only shades of traditional Japanese indigo. As a Japanese artist who has been deeply moved by their music, this piece reflects how I received and internalized the values and spirit of the album from across cultures.

The Low End Theory is, to me, a landmark in the art of sampling—the practice of breaking down existing music and reconstructing it into something new. That approach resonates strongly with my own creative process, where I deconstruct old indigo-dyed garments such as jackets, noren, or futon covers, and give them new life through collage and reconstruction.

Sampling, in this sense, is more than a technique—it is a philosophy. One that honors the past while reshaping it into something current and personal. In this artwork, I aim to reflect that shared ethos, bridging the worlds of hip-hop and traditional Japanese craftsmanship through a common language of reassembly and cultural respect.


This piece is made by adhering indigo-dyed fabric scraps to an A3-sized wood panel (2cm thick).
