この作品に使われた藍染襤褸生地も、もとは人々の日常を支えた道具の一部でした。時を重ね、役目を終えたそれらの布は、今ここでアートとして再構築され、過去の記憶と新たな意味を帯びて再び立ち上がっています。

一片の布にも宿る歴史を重ね合わせながら、強い信念のもとに未来を見据えた彼の姿を、藍の深みとともに表現した作品です。

This piece is inspired by one of the most influential civil rights leaders of the 20th century—a figure known for his unwavering vision, intellect, and commitment to justice. It is created entirely from indigo-dyed boro fabric.

The intensity of his gaze, even behind glasses, reflects both determination and clarity. In this work, every detail of his expression has been carefully rendered to capture not only his likeness, but the strength of his convictions.

The subject was a powerful voice for the Black community in America, advocating for dignity, self-determination, and an unflinching awareness of historical injustice. He encouraged people to understand their roots, reclaim their power, and envision a future built on strength and knowledge.

The materials used—fragments of worn and repurposed fabric—carry their own histories, once part of everyday lives, now woven into a new narrative. Like the man portrayed, these materials are shaped by the past, but reassembled with intention and purpose to speak to the present.

Through this portrait, I sought to echo that same spirit: honoring history, confronting reality, and transforming both into something enduring.
