『Indigo Legacies』シリーズの一環として制作された本作は、東洲斎写楽による浮世絵《三代目大谷鬼次の奴江戸兵衛》と対になる場面に登場する「奴一平」を題材にしています。
原作の歌舞伎『恋女房染分手綱』では、主人への忠義を貫く従者・一平と、荒々しい悪役・江戸兵衛が対峙する場面が描かれます。本作では、忠義と誇りに生きる一平の凛とした姿を、藍染の襤褸（ぼろ）生地の濃淡を駆使して再構築しました。

背景には、永続と繁栄を意味する「紗綾形文様」をあしらい、揺るぎない忠誠心と精神の強さを象徴しています。藍の深みと素材の質感が織りなす陰影が、一平の静かな気迫と美意識「粋」を現代に甦らせます。

Part of the Indigo Legacies series, this artwork reimagines Yacco Ippei, the loyal retainer appearing opposite Edohei in Toshusai Sharaku’s The Actor Otani Oniji III as Edohei.
In the original kabuki play Koi Nyōbō Somewake Tazuna, Ippei embodies fidelity, sincerity, and the spirit of giri-ninjō (duty and compassion), contrasting Edohei’s fierce villainy.

This reproduction expresses Ippei’s unwavering resolve through layered fragments of indigo-dyed boro fabric. The Sayagata pattern in the background—symbolizing continuity, strength, and prosperity—reinforces the spirit of unyielding loyalty.

Printed using the giclée technique on premium Awa Washi Kozo paper, the piece captures the tactile beauty and tonal depth of indigo while blending Japanese tradition with modern artistry. The result is a contemporary revival of Edo’s refined aesthetic, iki.
